Lambda Pi Alpha Sorority , Beta Mu Chapter is a Nursing Sorority whose mission is to follow in the steps of our founder who has made significant advancements for African American Nurses.
In 1913, Ms. Hulda M. Lyttle was one of three graduates from the first nursing class of Meharry Medical College’s G.W. Hubbard Hospital. In 1916 Ms. Lyttle was appointed director of the nurse’s training. She continued on in her career to serve as superintendent of the hospital and of nurses, as well as the director of the nursing school. In 1938, Ms. Lyttle was proudly appointed Dean of Meharry’s school of Nursing; the Medical schools first African American female dean of an academic division and one the first African American deans of Nursing in the United States.
Lambda Pi alpha Sorority is proud to Honor Ms Lyttle by continuing to promote the growth and education of nurses and nursing students through mentoring and offering scholarships. We continually participate in health promotion and illness prevention through our participation in community events, & assisting in implementation of the most current health care initiatives and health awareness programs. Lambda Pi Alpha Sorority relentlessly donates monetary gifts as well as their time to worthy individuals and causes.
We continue to recognize, honor and uplift African American nurses every year and all year who have made significant advancements and contributions to the nursing profession.
